…The Big Pancake Party

The Big Pancake Party 2013

The Secret Showcase Presents is back this year with its second annual yummy fundraiser on the 12th of February. We will be celebrating Shrove Tuesday by cooking pancakes and enjoying live music to raise funds for the Big Issue Foundation, a national charity which connects Big Issue vendors with the vital support and solutions that enables them to rebuild their lives and help them on their journey away from homelessness.

The Secret Showcase Presents returns on Tuesday the 12th of February at the infamous Macbeth in Hoxton. 70 Hoxton St City of London N1 6LP. We will be entertained by the best musicians in town, guaranteed to have us all up on our feet celebrating the great work that the foundation does to help homeless and vulnerable people to improve their lives. There will be a minimum donation of £3 on the door and gold coin donation if you fancy a pancake or two.

CC Smugglers – CC Smugglers10.00pm

CC Smugglers are a rag tag 6 piece from the wilds of Bedfordshire who formed in 2009, they have recently completed their debut album, an infectious stew of gypsy jazz, blues, folk, country and roots. They have built a reputation for great live shows both locally and further from home and have returned from a successful summer on the festival circuit to perform a few select shows in the run up to the album release later this year. Oh yeah, and they are currently knocking around with the Old Crow Medicine Show.

Burning Condors – Burning Condors9.00pm
London four piece Burning Condors took flight when Tommy Thompson left his roots of Bradford and moved south to the capital to find acting work and met band mates Matthew Edun and the boy Churchy.
With Tommy influenced by British acts like Joy Division and Bowie and Matthew an old school blues nut, the pair introduced each other to their record collections to create a noise which led one reviewer to gush – ‘Burning Condors have distilled the essence of the blues, added a dash of rockabilly swagger and forced it through a modern art punk filter to come up with something fresh and new’.
After cutting their teeth on the London gigging scene, they earned a break with a run of support slots for Punk Blues favorites Legendary Shack Shakers. After seeing Burning Condors strut live, Shack Shakers’ double bassist and Producer Mark Robertson invited the boys out to his studio in Nashville, Tennessee to cut their debut album. The record also features the talents of Col JD Wilkes (Dirt Daubers) and Dave Roe (Johnny Cash’s band ‘Tennessee Three’) and is released at the end of 2013.

Ben Gunn – Ben Gunn8.00pm

Ben is a Blues, soaked Alternative, Rhythm & Blues, Skiffle singer songwriter with a tendency for covering a few old classics. His new album ”Skiffle and Grit” draws heavily on the passion of Big Bill Broonzy and Leadbelly while mixing it with the energy and emotion of rhythm and blues to excite and entertain a new generation. With homemade percussion instruments such as tea chests, bin lids and washboards played by new souls in the 21st century creating an enthusiasm that has been missing from music for a long time.
