The Secret Showcase Proudly Presents… The Golden Boys @ Floripa

19 Sep

SecretShowcase_v3-1The Secret Showcase Presents… Returns to host a night of wonderment at Floripa next week on Wednesday the 25th of September, introducing you to The Golden Boys and celebrating the recent launch of their EP ‘AAA side’.

I saw these Guys play at Latitude and knew strait away that I wanted to work with them and tell as many people as I possibly could how much I enjoyed them. These guys deserve wild and happy audiences… they really enjoy there craft and know how to work an audience, not only did they pull out the bag a hypnotically euphoric performance but they were incredibly humble with it too. On the Sunday at Latitude the Golden Boys were totally unaware of the stir they had caused among the huge audience they didn’t know they had pulled in, If you’ve been to Latitude you might know the stage in the far-away-forest and that its audience rises up hill and late at night, blinded by the stage lights The Golden Boys performed like their life depended on it.

Expect irresistible disco grooves, heart-wrenching bossa ballads, immaculate song craft and seemingly impossible commitment and energy. Add to the mix eight gold sequined jackets, some skin-tight gold leggings and a never-say-no attitude and you have something resembling the Golden Boys. The Golden Boys, have been bringing verve and exuberance to venues since 2010 and as the popularity for the band grew so did the band itself. Now boasting eight members they are able to create illustrious textures and realise ambitious sounds. Silky smooth horn lines, sweeping synth hooks and blazing guitars combine to create a unique and compelling sound that will have you dancing all night.

Our main influences are the good times disco of Chic, the English wit of Ian Dury and The Blockheads, the sincerity of Barry White, the intensity and experimentalism of David Bowie, and the dynamics and flow of disco influenced dance music”  – Dante Rendle Traynor – Lead vocals

“The Golden Boys will change the world. I don’t know how but they will.”
– The Independent

For those who also had parents that swirled around the lounge to Luther Vandross and screamed along to The Streets…our Latitude festival discovery – Gemma Cairney – Radio 1 & 1Extra

To add the icing to the cake so it were DJ’s Inigo Ugarteburu (our resident mix-tape extraordinaire) and Sister Sam will also be bringing you a selection of Jazz, Soul, Funk, Rhythm & Blues and Rock & Roll – Check out Inigo’s Mixtapes here.latinmusic1

Introducing… Ephemerals

18 Sep

Ephemerals Stairs Straight At Camera SquareRemember last year when I wrote about the momentous album Hill Of Feathers by Hannah Williams and the Taste Makers? I actually can’t believe it was almost a year ago. It’s funny how things work out sometimes, If I hadn’t have been told by a friend about HW&TT I wouldn’t have written the blog post and I wouldn’t have met Nic or Jimmy Needles or known about Funkology and more to the point I wouldn’t have know that Nic was the composer of said momentous album or anything about his new music project ‘Ephemerals

Having got to know Nic over the last year it has become very clear that he doesn’t like to sit still. He’s always got several projects on the go and I don’t think he would have it any other way. So not being one to rest on his laurels or bask in the success of past projects, while HW&TT were on break for Hannah to Give birth to a beautiful boy (Congratulations Hannah) Nic set upon several new projects, one being writing a new soul album with a particular singer in mind. Nic met Wolfgang Valbrun when his band ‘Marvelous’ supported HW&TT on tour and since Nic was leaving the band to pursue further challenges and find another singer for his next half written soul album, This was the moment Nic he realised he didn’t have to look much further.

Nic set to work on finishing the album which was recorded at ‘Cow Shed Studio‘ and features an all-star soul cast of musicians from bands including Keke Mokoro, Gene Dudley Group, Dakhla, Kalakuta Millionaires, Marvelous & Bombs, and a strings session featuring the Cordicella’s who played on his tracks “Tell Me Something” and the breakout “Work It Out” as well as a session to record the lush backing vocals of Hannah Curtain of HWT.  Add to this blend Wolfgang’s effortless vocal delivery that glides and grits both simultaneously and you have quite a fantastically soulful sound to content with.

There is not a confirmed release date for the album as yet, but I for one am very excited to be able to witness the growth and development of this project from the off! Which brings me the the main point of this post. Ephemerals have hit the road to play there first tour and I am inviting you to be a part of the hype and join the wonderful community of musicians that I am blessed to be a part of. Bloggers, Press and Radio, Watch out because Ephemerals are about to launch!

Ephemerals Tour

The Secret Showcase Presents will be catching up with Nic and Wolfgang to talk about the début album to be titled ‘Nothin’ Is Easy’ prior to release so stay tuned, In the mean time Follow Ephemerals on Facebook.

Samantha Whates covers ‘I Cant Stop Loving You (Tho I Try)’ for Barclays premier league ‘Love Is Tough’ Campaign

12 Sep

I love surprises, the other day I wasSamWhates watching the TV I got a lovely one when this advert came on, I got really excited and was asking my house mate like she should know and could confirm that “This is Samantha Whates right?’ She didn’t know but I was so sure. I Checked on-line and Googled the advert to find out who was singing but all I could find out for sure was that it was a song written by Billy Nicholls, first released by Leo Sayer. Surely there is no one else in the world that could sound like Samantha. I was right! I have since been back on a forum where people were asking “Who is the Girl Singing this song?” And told them all who! Thought you might like to know too, it’s our Sweetheart Samantha Whates, and doesn’t she sound so lovely?
