The Friday Night Whoopee With Smitty’s Big Four

27 May

What are you doing This Friday? The Secret Showcase Presents… are delighted to announce that Smitty’s Big Four will be taking to the stage at St. Moritz Club London for The Friday Night Whoopee on the 30th May and we can’t wait!

Smitty’s Big Four is the feisty little brother of the Kansas Smitty’s House Band. While the House Band draws its main inspiration from Count Basie’s hard swinging late night jam sessions in 1930s Kansas City, the Big Four is interested in the music of Sidney Bechet and the upbeat swing of New Orleans. The Big Four’s unique combination of trumpet, soprano sax/clarinet, guitar and bass, separates the group from traditional Dixieland groups with the omission of drums and piano. This streamlined formation allows the band to navigate New Orleans and swing standards with unparalleled energy and tightness while maintaining the melodic integrity of the canon. The band features Pete Horsfall, Giacomo Smith, Dave Archer, and Ferg Ireland.

Join Samantha Pink Panther and friends for the best live music in town and the hottest 45s, Special Guests include Tim Hellzapoppin of Hellzapoppin Club.

Doors at 10pm, band will be on around midnight and we will be partying till 3.30am.

£6 before 11.30 £8 After. Advance Tickets available here

Here is what The Kansas Smitty House Band feel like in full swing!

Kansas Smitty NYE gig at Ribeira is Cancelled.

29 Dec

Having something beyond your control fail at the last minute is certainly the worst part of being a promoter and unfortunately due to an issue with the late licence at Ribeira this is exactly what has occurred.

TSSP - PRESS RELEASE 10Therefore we are absolutely devastated to announce that because of this, The Secret Showcase Presents NYE Party with The Kansas Smitty House Band will not be happening. We will however, be hosting a Kansas Smitty Gig in the new year, tho we can’t apologise enough to anyone who had made plans to come to our NYE party. If you have purchased a ticket you will have received an email explaining that you will receive a refund.

Ribeira will still be open till 12.30 with free entry but there will be no live music provided by TSSP. People can have a 3 course dinner with a glass of bubbly for £35 if they wish. If interested they can book tables directly through Ribeira (0203 119 0037)

DJ Samantha Pink Panther will still be playing some 50s Rhythm & Blues early which will be followed by The Fossey Shuffle band who will be playing a live set of Motown, soul and jazz covers as Ribeira say goodbye to 2013 to welcome in 2014!

We are so crushed to learn of this disaster at such short notice after we have worked so hard to plan something we were really looking forward to, tho we are confident we will soon have an alternative date confirmed for a Kansas Smitty party and also glad that Ribeira is able to offer something for NYE. With this in mind we would like to thank you all for your continued support and wish you a very happy New Year, Whatever you decide to do.

Please accept our most sincere apologies again. We are absolute gutted! Please do not hesitate to contacts us with any queries you might have at thesecretshowcasepresents@gmail.com

Inspired by the swinging, hedonistic atmosphere of the one American city that overcame the Great Depression. The Kansas Smitty’s House Band are the fresh answer to London’s booming ‘speakeasy jazz’ scene. The Smitty’s House Band features an ever shifting line up of London’s best musicians put together by band leader on alto sax and clarinet Giacomo Smith. Hot off the back of sold out shows at Ronnie Scotts, The Vortex, Peckham Liberal Club & The Servants Jazz Quarters and unfettered by pretensions of academic authenticity, it is not just another vintage dress up party. They’re putting danger back in jazz.

What’s more, host and resident DJ Samantha Pink Panther will feature an assortment of the best old time Jazz, Swing, Jump ‘n’ Jive, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Soul and Rhythm & Blues dancing tunes on 45s, accompanied by a compilation of silent films.

Fancy something tasty! Grab yourself a refreshing Mint Julep, Kansas Smitty’s very own special recipe or something else equally as mouthwatering from Ribeira’s South American inspired food and drinks menu. Food service finishes early but resumes again in time for breakfast.

Dust of your threads and dig out your best dancing shoes. Please come and join us in our magnificent celebrations for a truly unforgeable start to the new year.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Guarantee your place at the party now and Book your tickets HERE at Design My Night for £10 or pay £15 on the door subject to availability

Kansas Smitty at Peckham Liberal Club

22 Oct

This Saturday something very special is happening in Peckham! If you have not made plans yet make sure you make this one of them!

Kansas Smitty PosterKansas Smitty are hosting a Kansas Smitty Speakeasy at The Peckham Liberal Club, 24 Elm Grove, London, SE15 5DE This Saturday the 25th October.

Inspired by the swinging, hedonistic atmosphere of the one American city that overcame the Great Depression, this is not another vintage dress up party. Lying virtually untouched since its foundation in 1901 sits the recently rediscovered Peckham Liberal Club. Kansas Smitty’s is taking it over and breathing life into the turn of the century venue with The Kansas Smitty’s House Band, formed of some of the best young jazz men and women currently residing in this country, playing original material and new arrangements of rare and long forgotten tracks in a way that hasn’t been seen or heard in any music hall for a very long time.

Here is a little sneaky taste of what you can expect from the Kansas Smitty House band…

And this isn’t all that is in store. The Smitty’s Julep Bar hosted by the infamous Stav B (“a creative force to be reckoned with – timeout”) smashing out nothing but the best Juleps this side of Kentucky all night long – just bourbon, mint, crushed ice and a special bitters of her own concoction.

Feeling peckish? Out the back of the music hall The Tamale shack will be cooking up a storm for hungry dancers. They will be serving up piping hot Tamales – which for those that don’t know are a deep south delicacy of slow cooked pork cooked to Smitty’s own recipe and steamed in a dough or ‘masa’ then wrapped in a corn husk and served with a hot salsa or cool sour cream. last seen in london circa 2010 and now back with a point to prove..

When the band is not playing the Kansas Smittys DJs will be spinning the best Swing, Rhythm & Blues, jump’n’jive and hard bopping goodness to keep spirits and knees high. You can expect to see me repping The Secret Showcase Presents with a box of treats to spin.

Get Your tickets while there hot at http://billetto.co.uk/kansassmittys £8 Earlybird, £10 in advance, £12 on the door.
